That's gross - many men not washing hands

Many cases of colds, flu, and foodborne illness are spread by unclean hands, and these diseases are responsible for billions of dollars each year in health care expenditures and productivity losses. Hand hygiene is simple routine of modern day life.

However, accoding to a recent survey, 1/3 of U.S. men doesn't wash his hands after using public bathrooms. 92% of Americans who claimed in a phone survey that they always do it, but only 77% people actually did it an observational stud. In terms of gender gap, 88% of women did it, but only 66% of men - a drop from the 75% of men who did it in a similar study two years ago.

That's gross!

A surprising trend. My wife (the germaphobe)has hand sanitizer always available for when washing isn't possible. She is fastidious about washing after church or other hand shaking gatherings, won't use handrails in public places and gets "the look" when telling our teens to wash up before eating, before putting away dishes, before touching anything that she may have to touch later!

Hand washing is the rule at our place!

By the way, she's a surgical technologist and a real stickler for sterile technique at work, too.

I have to agree with you, as do most of my co-workers. We're always apalled at the number of guys we see leave the bathroom without washing hands. I myself have a container of wet wipes and a squeeze bottle of hand santizer on my desk...we also keep bottles of hand sanitizer positioned around the dance studio for people to use. Nothing worse than watching someone sneeze into a hand, then want to take your hand to dance with you...

In my museum I have the dubious job of cleaning the toilets. Its very noticeable that the soap dispenser in the men's loo almost never needs replacing, whereas the women's needs to be refilled once or twice a month.
